Tips to Cut Calories

By: Dr. Kofi

For many people, switching to leaner, lower-fat versions of meat and dairy products may be one of the easiest ways to reduce calorie intake. This is because with this strategy, you're not eliminating foods you like, but rather, you choose healthier versions of the staples that make up your everyday diet.

Here are some tips:
>> Beef: Look for meat that is labeled "round" or "loin."
>> Poultry: Buy skinless chicken/turkey parts. (Or you can simply remove the skin at home before you cook.) Remember, frying in oil defeats the purpose.
>> Dairy: Choose from the abundance of low-fat or non-fat milk, yogurt and cheeses now available.
>> Even if you're a vegetarian, the same principal can work for you; look for lower-fat versions of meat substitutes like tofu.
