Health Benefits of Strength Training

By: Dr. Kofi

Aside from the physical benefits you get from strength training, there are many more important benefits you get from it. Sure, you may be strength-training for a flatter abdomen, more defined legs, "big guns", huge pecs, or a tighter backside. But did you know that your workouts with weights are doing great things for your overall health?

Regular strength-training - such as using free weights or weight machines - offers these whole-body benefits:

>> Reduced risk of some cardiovascular diseases
>> Reduced rick of metabolic diseases such as diabetes
>> Improved bone density, which reduces osteoporosis risk
>> Reduced risk of injury
>> Improved coordination
>> Increased metabolism, which can help you maintain or even lose body weight

Other types of strength-training include resistance exercises done without weights, such as push-ups and sit-ups and Pilates.

So when you are celebrating your accomplishment for achieving your physical goals, you should also be proud of yourself for keeping the Doctor away.
